Carol Channing, Larger-Than-Life Broadway Star, Dies at 97

Carol Channing, whose incandescent performances because the gold-digging Lorelei Lee in “Gents Desire Blondes” and the matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi in “Whats up, Dolly!” made her a Broadway legend, died early Tuesday at her dwelling in Rancho Mirage, Calif. She was 97.
